History

Two ambitious Alpha men, Brothers Don White and Melvin Lumpkin, canvassed their individual communities and saw the need for the light of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to shine brightly in them. An urging was realized to allow other professional men in Gadsden, County, FL and Decatur County, GA  to join the ranks of their beloved fraternity. After deciding that Quincy, FL would be the seat for the budding chapter, they sought out other brothers to join together and form a local chapter.

On March 26, 1994, nine strong, brave, and ambitious Alpha Men assembled at the Simmon Scott Center and formally initiated the inception of the Pi Psi Lambda Chapter. "Manly Deeds, Scholarship and, Love for All Mankind" have always been the aims of our dear Fraternity. With this in mind, Brothers  Don White, Melvin Lumpkin, Roderick Palmer,  Joe Lewis, Charles Anderson, Roosevelt Brown, Nathaniel  Barnes, Phillip  Jackson and Pugh Young initiated the spark, the Light of Alpha in Gadsden County, FL.

As of March 26, 2019, for 25 years Light of Alpha has shown brightly. Other dynamic men have joined the ranks of the chapter and the Pi Psi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is vibrant and a visible force in the local community. The Brothers of this chapter are committed to providing scholarships, promoting and supplying support and aid to others in need, and instituting programs to provide guidance to the youth. We wholeheartedly believe that with our involvement we can provide services to advance of our community more than we could ever imagine. We strive daily to uphold the great ideals, principles and standards of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
